With baby #2 due in March, I’m starting to think about remodeling our master bedroom. When Emma was born, I really didn’t give myself enough time to really recover before I started trying to get around and be “normal”. Recently, I read this excellent article that talks about how in many other cultures around the world, women basically stay in bed for 30 days or so after giving birth. It’s really an American thing to try to be up and doing things immediately. I’ll have Rodney here and my mom helping with cooking and housework, and I want to really take advantage of that and allow myself to stay in bed all day – because really, it’s a pretty traumatic thing your body goes through and you need to not be doing anything except laying down and bonding with new baby.
My problem is that I hate our bedroom. It’s the only part of the house I haven’t put any money or thought into decorating and I find it a really stressful room to be in. It’s mostly a collection of mismatched, ugly, over-sized furniture that Rodney had from before I moved in (sorry Rodney!). There’s a green wall and green carpet. Bleh. And it’s not at all where I want to spend any significant amount of time.
So, I’ve been collecting inspiration for the bright, white, California-cool, peaceful bedroom of my postpartum dreams and I cannot wait to get started!!
